Acceptance of Terms
By accessing or using Tokyo Playbook (“the Service”), operated by Tokyo Playbook LLC (“we”, “us”, “our”), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.
Eligibility
You must be at least 13 years old (or 16 in the EU/EEA) to use the Service. By creating an account, you represent that you meet this age requirement.
Description of Service
Tokyo Playbook is a digital travel concierge for Japan, with deepest coverage of Tokyo and full support for multi-city trips (Kyoto, Osaka, Nara, Hakone, and other Japanese destinations). The Service includes:
- An AI chat assistant trained on curated Japan-specific recommendations, with optional voice dictation and photo analysis (menu / sign / storefront translation)
- Local Intel: machine-translated summaries of Japanese-language reviews for restaurants, hotels, attractions, and day-trip activities
- Trip planning tools: saved spots, day-by-day plans, neighborhood grouping, walking-time estimates, custom spot entry, trip notes, booking checklists, and countdowns
- Interactive map with city + day filters and per-day route visualization (premium)
- Shareable read-only trip URLs you can paste into messages or email
- Optional Trip Pass subscription (described in the next section) that raises usage limits and unlocks premium features
Service characteristics — current usage limits:- Free tier: a lifetime quota of AI chat messages and a small lifetime quota of photo translations; saved spots and trip planning available without payment
- Trip Pass (paid): 100 AI chat messages per day, 25 photo translations per day, uncapped Local Intel, day-by-day plan with route maps, and unlimited saves across your trip
These quotas are the main characteristics of the digital service. We may adjust them over time (typically upward) and will notify subscribers by email if a change materially reduces the included quota.
Beta / Pre-Release Service
Tokyo Playbook is offered as a
beta (pre-release) service under active, ongoing development. By using the Service — including any paid Trip Pass subscription — you acknowledge and agree that the Service is a work in progress and that, accordingly:
- features may be added, changed, suspended, removed, or temporarily unavailable at any time and without prior notice;
- you may encounter bugs, errors, incomplete features, downtime, or unexpected behavior, and recommendations or data may be inaccurate or change as the Service evolves;
- we update the Service regularly and do not guarantee that any particular feature will remain available, behave consistently, or be free of defects.
The Service is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis as described in the Disclaimer of Warranties below. Paying for a Trip Pass subscription does not entitle you to any specific feature, level of performance, or uptime beyond the usage characteristics described above. If a change materially reduces a paid subscriber's included quota, we will notify subscribers by email as described in the Subscription section.
Accounts
You may create an account to access personalized features. You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account. You must provide accurate information when creating an account. You may not share your account with others or create multiple accounts.
User-Generated Content
You may create trip notes, custom saved spots, and other content within the Service, including any photos or text you upload to AI features such as menu translation or booking import (collectively, “User Content”). You retain ownership of your User Content. By creating User Content on the Service, you grant us a limited license to store, display, and process it solely to provide the Service to you. We do not share your User Content with other users or third parties, except as described in our Privacy Policy (e.g., chat messages sent to Anthropic for AI processing).
You represent and warrant that you own or have all rights necessary to submit your User Content, that it does not infringe any third party's intellectual-property, privacy, or other rights, and that it does not contain illegal, defamatory, harassing, hateful, sexually explicit, or otherwise objectionable material. You agree not to upload User Content for any unlawful purpose.
You acknowledge that User Content submitted to our AI pipelines (such as menu translation or booking import) is processed automatically and is not reviewed by a human before processing, and that AI-generated outputs may contain errors and should be verified before you rely on them. We may, but are not obligated to, remove any User Content at our discretion, and we may suspend or terminate accounts for repeated violations.
Subscription, Billing & Auto-Renewal
Trip Pass is a monthly subscription billed at
$24.99 USD per month, processed securely through Stripe. Your subscription begins on the date of purchase and automatically renews each month on the same calendar day until you cancel.
Auto-renewal disclosure: By subscribing, you authorize us, through Stripe, to charge the payment method you provide $24.99 USD (plus applicable taxes) at the start of each monthly billing cycle until you cancel. The renewal date is shown in your account at Account → Manage subscription.
How to cancel: You can cancel at any time, with no further charges, by opening the app and going to Account → Manage subscription, which opens the Stripe Customer Portal. Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period — you keep access until then, and your saves, trip plan, and chat history remain in your account afterward. You may also email
contact@tokyoplaybook.com and we will cancel on your behalf.
Price changes: If we change the monthly price, we will notify you by email at least 30 days before the change takes effect, and the new price will only apply to billing periods after the notice period. You may cancel at any time before the new price applies.
Failed payments: If a renewal payment fails, we will retry the charge and notify you by email. Access may pause until payment succeeds; cancel anytime from your account to stop further retries.
Refund Policy: Because Trip Pass is a digital service delivered immediately, all paid subscription periods are non-refundable except where required by mandatory consumer law. If you experience a technical issue that prevents you from accessing your subscription, contact us at
contact@tokyoplaybook.com and we will work to resolve it or issue a refund at our discretion.
EU/EEA & UK Consumers — Right of Withdrawal: If you are a consumer in the EU/EEA or UK, you normally have a 14-day right to withdraw from a purchase of digital content. Because Trip Pass access is supplied to you immediately upon subscribing, at checkout you expressly request that we begin supplying the digital service right away and you acknowledge that you therefore lose your 14-day right of withdrawal once access has been provided. This applies to the first paid month only; subsequent renewals are not subject to a fresh 14-day withdrawal period, but you can cancel at any time to prevent future charges. This does not affect your statutory rights if the content is faulty or not as described. Where mandatory consumer law in your country of residence grants you broader rights, those rights are unaffected by this section.
California subscribers (ARL): You may cancel your subscription at any time using the Manage subscription link in your account. We acknowledge subscription enrollments by email, and we will send a renewal reminder before any material change to your subscription. To cancel, no phone call or written notice is required.
Germany & EU Fair Consumer Contracts: A cancellation button satisfying the “Kündigungsbutton” requirement is available at Account → Manage subscription. After cancellation we will send a confirmation by email.
AI Chat Assistant
Our AI assistant provides travel recommendations based on curated knowledge and AI capabilities. By using the AI chat, you acknowledge that:
- AI responses may contain inaccuracies, outdated information, or errors — always verify important details (hours, prices, reservations, closures) independently before relying on them
- Recommendations are informational only and do not constitute professional travel, medical, legal, financial, or visa/immigration advice
- Your chat messages are sent to a third-party AI provider (Anthropic) for processing, as described in our Privacy Policy
- If you upload a photo, the image is sent to Anthropic for analysis; image-based answers (translations, menu readings, sign decoding) can be imperfect — verify anything important independently
- Voice input is transcribed by your browser's speech-recognition service (Google or Apple, depending on your browser), not by us; transcription may contain errors, and you should avoid dictating sensitive personal information
- Chat history is stored in your account and may be reviewed in anonymized form to improve the service
- Usage limits apply based on your account type (free or premium)
Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
- Use the Service for any unlawful purpose

- Scrape, copy, or redistribute content from the Service

- Impersonate others or provide false information
- Attempt to extract, reverse-engineer, or replicate the AI assistant's knowledge base or system prompts

Some links on the Service are affiliate links to third-party services (such as Klook, Airalo, and Agoda). We may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. We only recommend tools and services we personally use and trust. We are not responsible for the products, services, or practices of these third-party sites.
Account Termination
You may delete your account at any time by contacting us. We may suspend or terminate your account if you violate these Terms, engage in abusive behavior, or attempt to circumvent the Service's security or access controls. Upon termination, your right to access the Service ceases. We may retain certain data as required by law or as described in our Privacy Policy.
Disclaimer of Warranties
The Service is provided “as is” and “as available” without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We do not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or reliability of any information provided, including AI-generated responses, restaurant recommendations, pricing, hours, or availability. Travel involves inherent risks, and you are responsible for your own travel decisions and safety.
Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Tokyo Playbook LLC shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the Service, including but not limited to reliance on AI-generated recommendations, missed reservations, travel disruptions, or third-party service issues. Our total liability for any claim shall not exceed the amount you paid for the Service in the 12 months preceding the claim.
Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Tokyo Playbook LLC and its owners, employees, and affiliates from any claims, damages, losses, or expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your User Content, your use of the Service, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of any third-party rights.
Dispute Resolution
Any dispute arising from these Terms or your use of the Service shall be resolved through good-faith negotiation. If we cannot resolve the dispute informally, it shall be settled through binding individual arbitration administered by the American Arbitration Association (“AAA”) under its Consumer Arbitration Rules, and an arbitrator — not a judge or jury — will decide the dispute, except that either party may bring claims in small claims court if eligible. You agree to resolve disputes on an individual basis and waive any right to bring or participate in any class, collective, consolidated, or representative proceeding.
30-day right to opt out: You may opt out of this arbitration agreement and class-action waiver by emailing
contact@tokyoplaybook.com within 30 days of first accepting these Terms, with your name, the email on your account, and a clear statement that you wish to opt out. Opting out affects only this section; the rest of the Terms still apply.
Consumers — Mandatory Local Rights
If you use the Service as a consumer, nothing in these Terms removes or limits any right you have under the mandatory consumer-protection law of your country of residence, and you benefit from those mandatory protections regardless of the governing-law and dispute-resolution sections below. In particular, if you are a consumer in the EU/EEA or UK, you may bring proceedings in the courts of your country of residence, and the arbitration agreement and class-action waiver below apply only to the extent permitted by the law applicable to you.
Governing Law
These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Wyoming, United States, without regard to its conflict of law provisions. This choice of law does not deprive a consumer of the protection afforded by mandatory provisions of the law of their country of residence.
Changes to Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify users of material changes via email or a notice on the website. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the new Terms.
